The Main Gauche (French for Left Hand), was an offhand dagger that was used with lighter, single-hand, primary weapons such as rapiers and side swords. Often called a parrying dagger, this weapon could be used defensively for some parrying and for trapping an opponent's sword. However, it works better as an offensive weapon for attacking into an opponent's opening after parrying or blocking an attack, and in close quarters. 

The Main Gauche was typically a matched weapon, designed to by stylistically similar or identical to the main weapon. In the case of this Main Gauche from Kingston Arms, it is designed to be matched to their Swept Hilt Rapier, which you can find in our Swords collection.
