DAC Handmade Teutonic Order Small Heater
Handmade by our staff at our shop, this shield features the white background and black cross of the Teutonic Order, made famous as one of the Orders Militant.
Formed in the late 12th century, the Teutonic Order was established from a field hospital for German crusaders after the Third Crusade. Originally focused on the Holy land, they eventually shifted to Eastern Europe at the end of the 13th century, taking part in the Northern Crusades.
In the early 15th century, due to a combination of military defeats and the Christianization of Eastern Europe, their power declined significantly. Since 1810, they have been a purely religious order, and continue to exist to this day, having existed continuously for almost 850 years.
Hand Made and painted canvas front and hand painted Small Heater Shield with Leather Edging. Made of 1/2" laminated pine and edged with leather and steel tacks for durability. Suede lined back pad with adjustable straps for that perfect fit.
This smaller "tournament" style heater shield is iconic of the style used after the advent of plate armour became popular.

*Please note, the cross on this shield is based on the early Cross Pattée, which is documented as early as the 7th century, not the Iron Cross, which was establish in 1813. Nor do we endorse or decry any historical events or their implications. We are a shop full of people who like history. Don't be weird.*
