Kingston Arms - Scottish Highland Halflang
The Scottish halflang, or halflang broadsword depending on who you ask, is the arming sword of the Scottish Western Highlands and Western Isles prior to rise of the basket-hilted broadsword. Our evidence for them predominantly comes from tomb effigies dating back to the 15th Century, though an archaeological artifact of this sword, known as a Type XIV blade, is a part of the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art dated to c. 1400 to 1425 CE, and is believed to be similar to those swords used by Scottish Knights during the Scottish Wars of Independence.
Stylistically, this sword has many of the same features as the larger, and better know, claidheamh-mòr (claymore), such as the forward-swept quillons and straight, double-edged blade.
This particular version from Kingston Arms features a 30 3/4" blade bade of high carbon steel, a comfortable disk pommel, and weighs less than 2lbs total.
