Valsgarde is one of the oldest known excavation sites in Sweden. Containing an untold amount of treasures from the last two millennium there is no way to measure its importance. Included among the find was this exquisite helm, which we have reproduced in exacting detail. It is estimated to be from the 8th century.

The Nasal Helm was originally designed in the early 9th century, but soon evolved into its own. It was the most plentiful helmet used in the early middle ages, and was used well into the late middle ages as well.
Visors were a late addition to medieval helmet. They came a time when men at arms had to decided whether they preferred addition protection or better visibility. The visor changed that.
The Bascinet is the most common form of helmet used in the middle ages. Originally developed to be worn under the great helm or barrel helm, the bascinet eventually evolved to include a retractable visor.
